Solar Energy in Greece

In April 2022, Greece officially revealed its 204-megawatt(MW) solar farm in Kozani. It is the biggest solar farm with bifacial panels in Europe. According to Elecrek, "Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis officially opened the €130 million ($141.7 million) solar farm, which is expected to generate 350 GWh of electricity capable of powering 75,000 homes annually. It has 500,000 bifacial panels and will be connected to Greece’s power grid."

A report by the Greek Reporter wrote, Prime Minister Mitsotakis stated, “This project reflects our national goals for cheap and clean energy from the sun, from the wind, from the water.” Mitsotakis promised to speed up permits for renewable energy projects, including the construction of large-scale offshore wind parks as the country seeks to wean itself off costly imported fossil fuels that lead to increased pollution.“Greece will become a protagonist in the field of renewable energy sources. It will adopt new innovative technologies,” (Greek Reporter).
